How do I submit a background check for opportunities?

Oliver Gospel is committed to creating a safe and secure space for our guests to heal and rebuild their life, therefore it is of great importance to us to carefully consider who comes in contact with our guests. Our guests are oftentimes in a vulnerable state of life and we want to minimize any opportunities that could hinder them in their healing process. Background checks may be required for certain volunteer opportunities to ensure the safety and security of our guests that stay with us. This guide was created to help aid in the process of submitting your background check.

If you have any questions, please email our Volunteer Coordinator, at volunteer@olivergospel.org

Step 1:

As you look through the variety of volunteer opportunities on our Get Connected Volunteer Portal, you will see an indicator on the list of opportunities about which opportunities require a background check. Next to the title of the opportunity, there will be a grey circle with the letters "ST" in the middle of the circle. This is an indicator that the opportunity requires a background check to be filled out and submitted through our background check partner, Sterling Volunteers. *See image below for reference*

 Step 2:

Once you have selected an opportunity and want to most forward to volunteer for that specific opportunity, click on the blue "Volunteer" button located at the top right-hand side of the page. *See image below for reference*

Step 3:

After you have clicked on the blue "volunteer button," you will be redirected to the initial submission page of the background check. Fill out all of the required information on this initial page and click submit (image below for reference). You will be redirected to another site to complete the full background check. If for whatever reason you do not complete and submit the initial background check page, there are a few extra steps you will have to take, which are detailed in step 3a.

Step 3a:

In the event that you do not complete the initial submission page right away, please email Kara Pippin (kara.pippin@olivergospel.org) to reset the process for you to attempt the process again.

Step 4:

After being redirected to the Sterling Volunteer site, you will be prompted to verify the email address that was used for the registration of your account on the Get Connected Volunteer Portal (image below for reference). After verification, you will be prompted to create an account on the Sterling Volunteers site.

Step 5:

Create an account on the Sterling Volunteers website (image below for reference).

Step 6:

After creating an account and logging into the Sterling Volunteers website, you will be redirected to a page where you will submit information to complete the full background check process (image below for reference). After you have completed and submitted the information for the background to be reviewed, you will receive an email that will confirm that the check has been properly submitted. You will also receive a 2nd email stating that you have been cleared or rejected to participate in volunteer opportunities that require background checks.

Step 7:

After you have received confirmation that your background check has come back as "cleared," you will be all set to volunteer for any opportunities that require a background check!
